How to create a single match in Squadd
A single match is the quickest way to add a fixture to your calendar — one game against one opponent on a specific date. Use it for league games, cup ties, friendlies, or any one-off fixture where your team plays once.
📝 Note — If your team is playing more than one game on the same day, use a Match Day instead of creating several separate single matches. See Which type of fixture should I create? if you're unsure.
Steps
Go to the Fixtures tab.
Tap the green + button in the top-right corner.
Select "Single match".
[Screenshot: The "Add to calendar" modal with all three options visible. Red box around "Single match".] Tap "Single match" for a one-off game against a single opponent.
Enter your Opponent name — for example, Northside United or Oakfield FC.
📝 Note — If you have Team Sides enabled but haven't set up any sides yet, you'll see an amber notice at the top of the form: "Team sides are enabled but no sides have been added yet." You can safely ignore this for now and continue filling in the fixture. To resolve it, see Setting up your Team Sides.
Set the Date of the match.
Set the Kick-Off time — this is when the match starts.
[Screenshot: New Fixture form showing the OPPONENT field filled in ("Northside United"), the DATE and KICK-OFF fields, and the MEET AT PITCH field directly below. Red box highlighting the MEET AT PITCH field.] The New Fixture form. The "Meet at Pitch" field sits just below Kick-Off — it's easy to miss but worth filling in.
Set a Meet at Pitch time (optional, but highly recommended).
This tells parents and players what time to arrive at the venue — typically 15–30 minutes before kick-off for a warm-up. It appears prominently on the Fixture detail screen with a megaphone icon so parents can't miss it.
💡 Tip — Setting a Meet at Pitch time is one of the easiest ways to cut down on "what time should we arrive?" messages. It takes five seconds and saves a lot of back-and-forth before match day.
Enter the Location (optional) — the venue name, for example, Riverside Park, Pitch 2.
Enter the Postcode (optional). If you add a postcode, players and parents can tap Get directions on the fixture detail to open the venue directly in their maps app.
Choose the Format: 5v5, 7v7, 9v9, or 11v11.
This determines the minimum player numbers used in the Cover by Position panel and the auto-suggested lineup. Make sure it matches the format your league or competition uses.
Select Home, Away, or Neutral.
- Home — you're playing at your own ground. Shown as a green badge on the fixture card.
- Away — you're playing at the opponent's ground. Shown as an orange badge with a plane icon.
- Neutral — neither team's home ground (a neutral venue, a leisure centre pitch, a school MUGA). Use this for cup finals, training matches, or tournament venues.
[Screenshot: New Fixture form showing the HOME / AWAY segmented control with all three options visible — Home (green, selected), Away, Neutral.] Choose Home, Away, or Neutral. Home and Away affect the badge colour shown on your fixture card.
Select the Match Type: League, Cup, Friendly, or Tournament.
This classifies the fixture in your stats. League results feed into your form guide. Choose whichever type best describes the competition.
💡 Tip — Take a moment to set the correct match type — it keeps your team record and form guide accurate in the Stats tab.
Tap Save (the green button at the bottom of the form).
[Screenshot: New Fixture form fully completed — opponent, date, kick-off, meet at pitch time, location, postcode, format, home/away, and match type all filled in. The green Save button is visible at the bottom.] A fully completed New Fixture form. Tap Save to add it to your Fixtures screen.
What happens next
Your fixture appears in the Upcoming Matches section of the Fixtures screen. Tap the fixture card to open the Fixture detail, where you can:
- Check player availability
- Review the Cover by Position panel to see if you have enough players for each position
- Tap View Lineup to build your starting lineup and plan substitutions
[Screenshot: Fixtures screen showing the new fixture card in the UPCOMING MATCHES section. The card displays the date box (green for Home), opponent name, kick-off time, venue, format, and HOME badge.] Your new fixture appears under Upcoming Matches. Tap the card to manage availability and build your lineup.
Tips
💡 Tip — Even if the venue is obvious to you, always add the postcode. Parents new to the team, or travelling to an away game for the first time, will thank you for the one-tap directions.
💡 Tip — You can edit any fixture detail after saving — tap the Edit icon (pencil) in the header of the Fixture detail screen.
📝 Note — The field here is labelled "KICK-OFF". On the Match Day creation form, the equivalent field is labelled "FIRST KICK-OFF". Both mean the match start time — the label differs between forms.
Troubleshooting
My fixture isn't appearing on the Fixtures screen. Check that the date you set is in the future. Past fixtures move to the Results section, not Upcoming Matches. If the date is correct, try closing and reopening the Fixtures tab.
I set the wrong kick-off time. Tap the fixture card to open the Fixture detail, then tap the Edit icon (pencil) in the header. Update the kick-off time and save.
I chose the wrong match type. Tap Edit on the Fixture detail and update the Match Type. This also corrects how the fixture is counted in your stats.
I don't see a "Meet at Pitch" field. Make sure you're on the New Fixture form — the form for a single match. The Meet at Pitch field is below the KICK-OFF time field. Scroll down if the keyboard is covering it.
I see an amber warning about Team Sides at the top of the form. This means you have the Team Sides module turned on but haven't created any sides yet. It's just a reminder — you can ignore it and create the fixture normally. To set up your sides, see Setting up your Team Sides.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a single match and a Match Day?
A single match is one game against one opponent. A Match Day groups multiple games together under one event for days when your team plays more than once. See Which type of fixture should I create? for a full comparison.
Can I add a single match to a Match Day after creating it?
Not directly — but you can add a new game to an existing Match Day by tapping the Match Day card and using "+ Add match". If you've created a standalone single match by mistake, you'll need to delete it and add it to the Match Day instead.
Does the format I choose affect the lineup builder?
Yes. The format determines how many players appear in the starting lineup and bench, and sets the minimum player counts used in the Cover by Position panel. Always match it to your actual game format.
Why does Match Type matter?
Match Type classifies the result in your Stats tab. League fixtures feed into your form guide and team record. Cup, Friendly, and Tournament results are tracked but marked separately. Keeping match types accurate gives you a cleaner picture of your league form.
Can I set a Meet at Pitch time after I've already saved the fixture?
Yes — tap the fixture card to open the Fixture detail, then tap Edit (pencil icon in the header). Add the Meet at Pitch time and save.
What does the Neutral option mean for Home/Away?
Neutral means neither team is playing at their home ground. Use it for cup finals, school pitches, leisure centre 3G pitches, or any venue that isn't your home or the opponent's home ground. It doesn't display a Home or Away badge on the fixture card.
