Letting a parent record the goals

Overview

Coaching a game and recording it on the same phone is a lot to ask. Goals slip by, and you end up reconstructing the match from memory in the car park.

The Goal recorder hands that job to a trusted parent. They get a stripped-back screen with the score, the clock and four big buttons, and nothing else: no line-up, no substitutions, no settings, no control of the match clock. You keep coaching, and by full time there is nothing left to type in.

Everything they record lands in the same match as if you had tapped it yourself, so the report, the stats and the share cards all include it.

What a goal recorder can do

Log a goal for your team and pick who scored
Log a goal for the opposition with one tap
Log a save and pick the keeper who made it
Log a shot, on or off target, if you have shot tracking turned on for the team
Undo their own last entry while the match is still being played

What they cannot do

Start the match, call half time or call full time — the clock is yours alone, and their screen simply follows it
Make substitutions or change the line-up
Change anything else about the team, the squad or the fixture
Delete anything you or anyone else recorded

Giving someone the role

Go to Settings → Team Members.
Tap the person you want to hand it to.
Turn on Goal recorder.

It is set once and stays on for that person, so they can record any match from then on. Turn it off the same way.

The role is only offered to members whose role is Parent. If the person you have in mind is listed as a coach or an admin, they already have the full live match screen and do not need it.

Recording a match

You open the fixture and tap Start Match, then Kick Off as the whistle goes.
On their own phone, your recorder opens the same fixture and taps Record goals.
They tap as the game unfolds. Every entry shows in a "This match" list at the bottom of their screen so they can see what they have logged.

The Record goals button only appears once you have started the match. Before then their screen says it is waiting for the coach to kick off, which is exactly right: the match has not begun, so there is nothing to record.

What you see on your side

Their goals go into the same match as yours. Your live screen picks them up when it refreshes rather than the instant they tap, so do not expect the score to tick over in front of you while you are coaching. What matters is that everything is in by full time, and it is.

If you both record the same goal you will see it twice in the timeline. Either of you can delete the duplicate from the timeline afterwards.

Good to know

Live recording is a Pro feature. The recorder is covered by your team's subscription, so the parent doing it needs nothing of their own.
Pick someone who watches the whole game. A parent who is running the line or fetching the balls will miss things.
One recorder is plenty. Two people logging the same match means duplicates to tidy up.
They see your squad list when picking a scorer or a keeper, which is the same list they already see elsewhere in the app. Nothing new is shared with them.

Troubleshooting

The Goal recorder toggle is not there. It only shows for members whose role is Parent. Check the person's role at the top of the same screen.

They cannot see the Record goals button. Either you have not started the match yet, or you have not given them the role. Both are quick to check.

Their screen says you have not given them access. The role is per team. If they are in more than one of your teams, make sure you turned it on in the right one.

A goal is missing. If they were out of signal, the entry is held on their phone and sent when the signal comes back. Ask them to open the app while they have a connection.
