Starting a New Season
Overview
At the end of each football season, you can start a new season in Squadd. This archives your current season's stats so they're preserved, resets the season counters, and optionally bumps your age group (e.g. U9 → U10). If your new age group plays a different format, it can move your team to that format in the same step.
Only Team Admins can start a new season.
What "Starting a New Season" Does

Nothing is hard-deleted. All historical data is preserved in the archive and can be accessed via the Stats filters.
When to Start a New Season
Start a new season once your final fixture of the season has been played and the match report has been published. There's no deadline — you can run both seasons' worth of data simultaneously for a short period without any issues.
💡 Squadd Wrapped: If you want parents to download their child's end-of-season highlight card, enable Squadd Wrapped in Settings before starting the new season. Once you start the new season, Wrapped turns off automatically.
If Your Season Doesn't Start in September
Starting a new season is for ending one season and beginning the next. If you only want to tell Squadd when your season starts (because it runs April to September, say, rather than September to August), you don't need to roll over at all: set Season starts on in Settings → Edit team details. See Editing Your Team Details.
How to Start a New Season
- Go to Settings
- Tap Start new season
- Set the new season start date (must be after the current season's start date)
- Optionally update the age group (e.g. U9 → U10)
- If Squadd shows Also change the format, leave it ticked to move to your new age group's format, or untick it to keep your current one
- Read the confirmation message carefully
- Tap Start new season
⚠️ This cannot be undone. Once started, you cannot roll back to the previous season configuration. Make sure your final match reports are published before proceeding.
When Your New Age Group Plays a Different Format
Some age groups move up a format. In England, for example, U9 plays 5v5 and U10 plays 7v7. In Wales, U11 plays 7v7 and U12 plays 9v9. In Ireland, U12 plays 9v9 and U13 plays 11v11. When you bump the age group, Squadd offers to change your team's format too, as long as:
- your association (in Settings → Edit team details) is The FA, the FAW or the FAI, and
- your team plays the format your association sets for its current age group
The option reads, for example, Also change the format from 5v5 to 7v7, with your association's rule underneath, and it's ticked. Leave it ticked and your team's format changes when the new season starts:
- New fixtures and match days start in the new format
- Games you've already added keep their format. Change one in its Match settings if it should move up too
- If your default formation was for the old format, it's cleared, and lineups start in the new format's first shape (2-2-2 for 7v7) until you pick one in Settings → Default formation
Untick it to keep your current format. You can change it later in Settings → Edit team details.
Squadd doesn't offer the change when:
- your team plays something other than your association's format for its age group, for example a U11 league that plays 9v9. Squadd takes that as your choice and leaves it alone
- your association is SFA, IFA or Other. Squadd doesn't know your league's formats, so check Format in Settings → Edit team details after starting the new season
After Starting the New Season
- The Stats tab resets to zero and begins tracking the new season from your new start date
- The Training tab continues from your existing schedule — no changes needed unless your training days or times are changing
- New fixtures and match days start in your team's format. If your new age group plays a different one and your format didn't change with the new season, change Format in Settings → Edit team details
- The Fixtures tab shows all fixtures (old and new); use the season filter on Stats to view by period
- Squadd Wrapped is turned off — re-enable it at the end of the new season when you're ready for parents to download their highlights
Viewing Previous Season Stats
Previous seasons' stats are accessible through the Stats tab filters:
- Tap Stats
- Change the period filter to All Time to see cumulative data across seasons
A dedicated previous season view (e.g. "2024/25 season") is planned for a future release.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I undo starting a new season?
No — the season start is permanent. Contact support@squadd.co.uk if you started a new season by mistake, and we'll help where possible.
Will parents lose access to their child's stats from last season?
No. Historical data is archived and remains accessible. The Stats tab will show the new season by default, but the All Time filter shows everything.
Do I need to re-add all my players?
No. Your squad carries over exactly as it is. Just deactivate any players who are leaving and add any new players for the new season.
What happens to the fixtures I've already created for next season?
They stay exactly as they are. If you've already started adding fixtures for the upcoming season, they'll simply fall under the new season once it starts. They keep their format too, so if your format changed with the new season, change any of those games in its Match settings.
Squadd didn't offer to change my format. Why?
It only offers when your association is The FA, the FAW or the FAI and your team plays your association's format for its current age group. Otherwise it leaves your format as you set it. Change it yourself in Settings → Edit team details.
My training is at the same time next season — do I need to set it up again?
No. Your training schedule carries over automatically. If your training days or times are changing, update the schedule in Training → ⚙️ Schedule.
Can coaches (non-admins) start a new season?
No — only Team Admins can access the Start New Season screen.
