Optional Modules Overview
Overview
Squadd ships with a focused core feature set. Optional modules let you layer on additional functionality when your team is ready — without cluttering the interface for teams that don't need them.
All optional modules are free to enable. There is no paywall for the toggles themselves.
Where to Find Optional Modules
- Tap the Settings tab (bottom navigation)
- Scroll to Optional modules
Only Team Admins can see and change these settings. Coaches and parents see only the modules that have been turned on.

Modules Reference
Modules that are ON by default
These are active for every new team. Turn them off if your team doesn't need them.
Man of the Match
What it does: Adds a Man of the Match picker to the match report. The coach selects the MOTM player before publishing. MOTM awards accumulate and appear as a column on the Stats tab.
Turn off if: You coach a very young age group (U5–U7) where singling out individual performance isn't appropriate, or if you prefer to focus on team metrics only.
Fair-play Helpers
What it does: During a live match, Squadd:
- Shows a ⚠️ warning when any selected player is projected to play less than 50 % of total match time
- Suggests the fairest swap when you tap the ⇄ substitution button (most-minutes player off; least-minutes player on)
- Reminds you when a planned substitution window is approaching
Turn off if: You coach an older or more competitive age group (U14+) where equal playing time is not a priority and you want to make substitutions without the fairness nudges.
Golden Boot Leaderboard
What it does: A ranked top-scorers table appears on the Stats tab for all team members to view (subject to the Show stats to parents privacy setting).
Turn off if: You coach younger players and want to avoid over-emphasising individual scoring records. Turning this off hides the leaderboard; individual goal counts are still recorded internally.
Modules that are OFF by default
Enable these when you need them.
Shirt Numbers
What it does: Adds a Shirt Number field (0–99) to each player record. When enabled:
- A green badge with the shirt number appears on each player's squad list row
- The number is visible in lineup and match report views
Turn on when: Your squad has assigned kit numbers and you want them visible at a glance in the app.
Volunteer Tasks
What it does: Lets you create match-day jobs that parents can claim from the fixture detail screen — line marking, goal nets, first aid cover, refreshments, and so on.
A task appears as unclaimed until a parent taps Claim. You can see at a glance which tasks are covered and which still need a volunteer.
Turn on when: You're tired of chasing the same volunteers by message every week. Works best once parents are active in the app.
Photo Gallery
What it does: Adds a Gallery section to each fixture. Any team member (coach or parent) can upload match-day photos. Photos are private to the team — they are not publicly visible.
Turn on when: Your team enjoys sharing match memories and you want a central place for them beyond the group chat.
Subs & Payments
What it does: Enables the Payments section in Squadd, letting you:
- Set up a monthly subscription amount and billing day
- Track which players have paid each month
- Record one-off charges (kit, presentation evening, tournament fees)
- Mark payments as received and add notes
Squadd does not move money — it is a record-keeping tool only. Payments are collected however your club currently does it (bank transfer, cash, etc.); Squadd just tracks who has paid.
Turn on when: You currently manage subs in a spreadsheet or rely on memory. Particularly useful for coaches who are also the club treasurer.
💡 After enabling, configure your subscription amount in Settings → Subs configuration.
Parents' Player of the Match
What it does: After you publish a match report, parents can vote for their Player of the Match. Voting is open for 48 hours and each parent gets one vote. You see the full vote breakdown; parents see only the winner.
Turn on when: You want to involve parents beyond availability and photos, and your team culture is positive enough that a parent vote feels rewarding rather than contentious.
Team Sides
What it does: Lets you define named sides within a single team (for example: Stars, Moons, and Sun for a club that runs multiple squads under one coaching group). Each side has its own colour and tag.
With sides enabled:
- Players can be assigned a default side
- Fixtures can be tagged to a specific side
- The lineup builder pre-filters to the players assigned to that side
- Training sessions and chat are shared across all sides
Turn on when: Your club runs multiple sides under a single coaching structure and you want to manage them in one Squadd team rather than creating separate teams.
Detailed Position Roles
What it does: Expands the position system beyond the five broad bands (GK, DEF, MID, FWD, ALL) to specific roles — Left Back, Centre Back, Right Back, Defensive Mid, Right Wing, Striker, and so on.
When enabled:
- The position picker on player records shows detailed role labels
- The sub rotation algorithm respects positions — it will only rotate a Left Back on for another defender-band player, not a midfielder
- Formation slots map to specific roles
Recommended for: 9v9 and 11v11 teams with consistent positional assignments. Less useful for 5v5 and 7v7 where players cover the whole pitch.
Turn on when: Your squad has established positions and you want the lineup and rotation to reflect them precisely.
Goalkeeper Tracking
What it does: Adds goalkeeper-specific tracking during live matches and reporting:
- A Save button appears on the GK player row during the live match
- Each save tap is recorded as a match event (regular save or penalty save)
- A Goalkeeper of the Match award appears in the match report alongside MOTM
- Saves and Clean Sheets columns appear on the Stats tab
Turn on when: You have a dedicated goalkeeper and want to track their specific contributions separately from outfield stats.
COMET Reminders
What it does: Sends automated push notifications to nudge coaches to:
- Submit the team sheet on the morning of a League match (COMET pre-game)
- Enter the result within 2 hours of the final whistle (COMET post-match)
⚠️ This module only appears for Welsh teams. COMET is the FAW (Football Association of Wales) online match reporting system. This module has no effect if your team's league association is not set to FAW.
Turn off if: You find the nudges disruptive or you submit results via a different workflow.
Squadd Wrapped
What it does: At the end of the season, Squadd generates personalised highlight reels for each player — goals, minutes played, MOTM awards, and training attendance. Parents can download their child's card and share it to social media.
Coaches can also generate a team summary Wrapped image.
Designed to be turned on once, at season end. Enable it when the season is complete and you want parents to celebrate the year.
💡 Some Wrapped slides (goals, awards, attendance) require a Pro subscription. The headline slide (name + photo + key stats) is free for all teams.
Privacy Settings
Two additional settings in the Team section of Settings control what parents can see:
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Show stats to parents | When off, the Stats tab is hidden from parents entirely. When on, parents see season stats for the whole squad. |
| Show subs to parents | When off, the Payments section is hidden from parents. When on, parents can see their own child's payment status. |
These are separate from the optional modules but appear in the same Settings area.
Changing Module Settings Mid-Season
You can enable or disable any module at any time during the season. Toggling a module:
- Does not delete historical data. If you turn off Shirt Numbers, the numbers are still stored — they just won't be displayed until you re-enable the setting.
- Takes effect immediately. All team members will see the change on their next app refresh.
- Does not affect published match reports. Past reports retain the data that was captured at the time.

- ✅ Team Sides — only if you run multiple sides
- ✅ Detailed Positions — for 9v9 / 11v11 with set positions

Frequently Asked Questions
Can coaches change module settings?
No — only Team Admins can enable or disable modules. Coaches see the results of enabled modules but cannot change them.
Will enabling a module send a notification to parents?
No. Parents will see newly unlocked sections on their next app open, but no push notification is sent when you toggle a module.
I enabled Volunteer Tasks but parents can't see it — why?
Parents need to have joined your Squadd team first. If a parent has not yet set up their account and joined via an invite link, they won't see any team content.
Is there a limit to how many modules I can enable?
No. All modules are free and you can enable as many as you like.
Can I try a module and then turn it off if it doesn't work for my team?
Absolutely. None of the toggles are permanent. Experiment freely.
