Captains

Overview

The Captains module lets you pick a captain for each game and keeps count of everyone's turns over the season, so the armband can be shared around the squad. It's on by default, and picking a captain is free on every plan.

Picking a captain

  1. Open the game from the Fixtures tab
  2. Find the Captain card and tap Pick a captain
  3. Choose a player from the list

The list is in the order that helps you share the armband fairly:

  • Players who said they're available come first
  • Within that, whoever has had the fewest turns this season is at the top
  • Under each name you'll see how many times they've been captain this season, and whether they're already picked for a game still to come

Before you open the list, the card also tells you who is due a turn, for example "Ali and Sam haven't been captain yet this season".

You can also pick the captain from the match plan (Build my match plan), below the bench. Tap the captain on either screen to change or clear the pick.

The captain wears a C on their roundel on the match plan pitch and on the live match pitch.

💡 Forgot on the day? The card keeps offering Pick a captain for a week after kick-off, so you can still record whose turn it was.

How turns are counted

  • A game counts as a turn once it has kicked off. A cancelled game never counts
  • At a match day (a festival or tournament), picking the same captain for several of the day's games counts as one turn
  • A game you've already picked a captain for, but that hasn't been played yet, moves that player down the list so you don't give them every upcoming game by mistake. It only counts as a turn once it's played

Who sees the captain

  • Everyone on the team sees the captain on the game's screen once you've picked one
  • If you've switched on Hide availability until squad picked for a game, parents and players only see the captain once you publish the squad, so it doesn't give your selection away early
  • Stats tab: tap a player to see their Captain count for the period you've chosen. Coaches see every player's count, including players who haven't been captain yet. The season stats table is part of Pro
  • Player stats page: once a player has been captain, their Captain count appears on their stats page (when stats are shared with parents)
  • Exports: the stats CSV has a Captain column, and the Season Review notes for presentation night say how many times each player was captain

The captain is never shown on share cards or result images.

Turning Captains off

  1. Go to Settings → Team modules → Customise features
  2. Toggle Captains off

The captain card and the C on the pitch disappear. Captains you've already picked are kept and come back if you turn the module on again.
