Parents' Player of the Match

Overview

Parents' Player of the Match (POTM) lets parents vote for their favourite player after each completed match. It runs alongside the coach's Man of the Match selection — they are entirely separate awards.

Parents get one vote per match. Coaches can see exactly who voted for whom. Parents see only the winner and vote counts.

Enabling Parents' POTM

  1. Go to Settings → Optional modules
  2. Toggle Parents' Player of the Match on

Once enabled, a voting section appears on the fixture detail screen for every completed match.

How Voting Works

When voting opens

Voting opens automatically when you publish the match report. Parents receive a push notification with the match summary that includes the POTM prompt.

Who can vote

Every parent in the team gets one vote per match. They can vote for any player in the squad — there's no restriction to their own child.

How parents vote

Parents open the fixture detail, scroll to Parents' Player of the Match, tap the player they want to vote for. A vote is cast immediately. They can change their vote at any time while voting is still open.

Closing voting

Voting stays open until you close it manually:

  1. Open the completed fixture
  2. Scroll to Parents' Player of the Match
  3. Tap Close poll

There's no automatic close — you decide when the result is final.

If there's a tie

When two or more players receive the same highest number of votes, all tied players are awarded a POTM win. Each gets +1 added to their 👍 POTM count in season stats.

What Coaches See

Coaches see the full vote breakdown — each player's vote total, vote percentage, and (crucially) the list of which parents voted for which player.

This helps you understand which players the parent community is recognising, and spot any patterns (e.g. every parent in the squad voting for the same child regardless of performance).

What Parents See

Parents see:

  • The current vote percentages (after they've voted)
  • The winner (highlighted with ⭐)
  • Whether their own vote went to the winning player ("You voted for X")

Parents do not see who else voted for whom — only coaches can see the voter breakdown.

POTM in Season Stats

The 👍 column on the Stats tab counts the number of POTM wins a player has accumulated, not raw vote totals. If a player received the most votes in 6 out of 12 matches, their count is 6.

This column is visible to parents when stats are shared with them.

Tips for Getting the Most from Parents' POTM

  • Announce it in the team feed the first time you enable it — parents often don't notice new sections unless prompted
  • Close voting promptly after each match (e.g. the following morning) — open polls with no clear winner can become stale
  • Use it as a conversation starter — the results often reflect something the coaching staff didn't see from the sideline

Frequently Asked Questions

Can coaches vote?
No — coaches and admins can see results but cannot cast a vote.

Can a parent vote for their own child?
Yes — there's no restriction. It's expected and normal.

What if only 2 parents have voted and I want to close it — is that okay?
Yes. You decide when enough votes are in. There's no minimum.

Does disabling the module lose historical POTM data?
No — POTM counts in season stats are preserved even if you turn the module off. You can re-enable it at any time.

Can I see total vote counts across the whole season?
The Stats tab shows POTM win count per player. Raw vote totals across the season aren't currently aggregated — only wins.
