Which type of fixture should I create in Squadd?
When you tap the + button on the Fixtures screen, Squadd asks you one question: what are you creating? There are three options, and picking the right one from the start saves you from having to redo the setup.
[Screenshot: The "Add to calendar" modal showing all three fixture creation options — Single match, Match day (multiple games), and Festival builder (multiple visiting teams, round-robin). Clean view, no annotation.] Squadd's three fixture creation options. The right choice depends on how many games your team is playing and who's involved.
The quick answer
| Situation | What to create |
|---|---|
| Your team plays one game against one opponent | Single match |
| Your team plays several games in a day (one after another) | Match Day |
| You're hosting a tournament with multiple teams playing each other | Festival Builder |
Single match
Use this when: Your team has one game on a specific date — a league fixture, a cup tie, a friendly, or a one-off training match.
What it creates: A standalone fixture card in the Upcoming Matches section of your Fixtures screen.
Real examples:
- Saturday morning league game vs Northside United
- Mid-week cup replay
- Pre-season friendly
📝 Note — Single matches have their own lineup, availability tracking, and live match recording — exactly the same as fixtures inside a Match Day.

Match Day (multiple games)
Use this when: Your team is playing more than one game on the same day — a festival, a development day, or a block of cup games — and your team is in every game.
What it creates: A grouped event card in the Upcoming Match Days section of your Fixtures screen. You add individual opponent games to the day one by one as the draw is confirmed.
Real examples:
- Your U11s play three 20-minute games at a county development festival
- A cup day where your team progresses through rounds
- An away tournament where you play four short games
[Screenshot: Fixtures screen showing the UPCOMING MATCH DAYS section with a Match Day card visible. The card shows the event title, date, kick-off time, venue, and fixture count badge. Separate UPCOMING MATCHES section visible below with a standalone fixture card for comparison.] Match Days appear in their own "Upcoming Match Days" section — distinct from standalone single matches.
💡 Tip — You don't need to know all your opponents when you create the Match Day. Create the event as soon as the date is confirmed, then add individual games as the draw is confirmed.

Festival Builder
Use this when: You are hosting a tournament or festival where multiple teams all play each other in a round-robin format — and you want Squadd to automatically generate every fixture between every team.
What it creates: A full schedule of round-robin fixtures — every team vs every other team — generated automatically from the team names you enter.
Real examples:
- You're hosting a six-team end-of-season festival at your home ground
- A club is running an in-house tournament with four age-group sides
- A pre-season tournament with teams from multiple clubs
⚠️ Heads up — naming inconsistency — In the menu this option is called "Festival builder", but the screen that opens is titled "Fixture Planner". They are the same thing. If you're looking for the Festival Builder and see "Fixture Planner" at the top of the screen, you're in the right place.
[Screenshot: The Fixture Planner screen showing the EVENT section (tournament name, date, location, format) and the TEAMS section with numbered team name input fields and a "+ Add team" button.] The Festival Builder opens a screen called "Fixture Planner" — add your teams and Squadd generates every round-robin fixture automatically.

Troubleshooting
I created a Single match when I needed a Match Day. You can't convert a single match into a Match Day. Create a new Match Day and delete the single match. It takes about two minutes.
I created a Match Day but only have one opponent. That's fine — a Match Day with one fixture works just as well as a single match. The only difference is it appears under Upcoming Match Days rather than Upcoming Matches. You can leave it as is, or delete and recreate as a single match if the card placement bothers you.
The Festival Builder generated too many fixtures. The Festival Builder creates one game for every pair of teams in the list. With six teams, that's 15 fixtures. If you only want some of those pairings, delete the ones you don't need from the Fixtures screen after they're generated.
Frequently asked questions
What if my team is playing at a festival but I don't know all the opponents yet?
Create a Match Day. Add your team's individual games one by one as the fixture list is confirmed — you don't need all opponents when you set up the event.
Can I use the Festival Builder for my own team's games?
Only if your team is one of the teams entered into the round-robin. If your U9s are playing every other team at a festival, yes — enter all the team names including your own. The Festival Builder generates the full schedule and Squadd treats your team's games the same as any other fixture.
Is there a limit on how many matches I can add to a Match Day?
No limit has been confirmed — add as many games as the day requires.
Can I mix Match Day games and single matches on the same day?
Yes. If your team has a standalone cup game in the morning and a Match Day festival in the afternoon, both will appear on your Fixtures screen. They're tracked independently.
